125 Things: 125 Posts about Centennial Park #cp125 10 Labyrinth

This is my dad walking the draft version of the labyrinth.

I tried it for a bit and got dizzy but he, being very determined in that ‘male facing a challenge way’, kept going — I’m not sure he solved the puzzle though.

Walking the labyrinth is supposed to be a meditative process and have a calming effect. I’m afraid I found it quite the opposite feeling trapped and claustrophobic like a rat in a maze. I hated walking around in those small, endless circles bumping into dead ends — anxiety-producing. I guess one man’s calming labyrinth may be another person’s prison cell.

Do you like labyrinths and mazes? I think kids probably love them but after having watched The Shining too many times, mazes have left a lasting impression.

I love the look of them but the act of walking through them kind of tedious. But a great metaphor for the mind/memories/soul/life journeys ;) Got caught in the mirror maze at Luna Park a few weeks ago which was similarly unpleasant!

Me too and find them initially enticing and the idea of them enticing but agree re the act of walking through them. Yes you are right about them being a great metaphor. Guess what we experience there also has to do with what we bring – our intention, our feelings.
